In 1979 Barry Kass joined an expedition of adventurers who set out to cross Africa overland from Tunis to Nairobi in a truck. This narrative is a true account of his observations and experiences based on a detailed journal he wrote along the way. The written journal is accompanied by excellent photographs taken by Kass which vividly illustrate the narrative and allow the reader to feel as if they were having the same experiences as the author. In the book Kass describes encounters with indigenous tribal people, such as the Tuareg camel herders of the Sahara Desert and the Pygmies of the Congolese rain forest, what it was like to camp on the East African grasslands surrounded by a host of wild creatures, stranded in Bangui in Central Africa for weeks because of problems with the authorities, and generally, what it was like to travel for several months with a group of strangers from different countries gathered in the back of a truck, seeking whatever experiences and adventures awaited us on our African journey.
